Have you ever wondered what is the function of Air Filter? What does it do? How it works?

In order to operate, all engines that use an internal combustion of fuel to run need air. Without air, gas will not be able to burn and give the required force to power an engine. However, it is essential that the air should clean before it gets to the engine. If it is not cleaned, there is a real chance that dirt and debris will get in. Over time, these particles can cause drastic problems to an engine, including wearing away bearings, cylinders, and piston rings.
This causes an engine to perform badly and ultimately will shorten the lifespan of a vehicle. More modern engines are also dependent on an exact ratio of air to fuel. If an engine does not have enough air, this creates additional strain. This is the reason cars have air filters. Choose ZENITH FILTERS for highest quality air filters a leading exporter and manufacturer of all kinds of filters since 1975 with latest technology and innovative ideas. These filters allow the right amount of air in and at the same time trap all of that dirt that could cause problems. Modern cars will generally have two air filters: one for the cabin and one for the engine. ... The purpose of the engine air filter is to prevent dust, dirt and other environmental contaminants from getting into the engine. Over time, the air filter becomes dirty and clogged, and will need to be replaced.
Air that gets sucked into a car engine needs to be as clean as possible to prevent engine contamination and, in some cases, engine damage. An air filter is the main line of defence against preventing damaging particulate matter from entering a vehicle's engine. Dirty air can reduce engine efficiency and cause damage; an air filter prevents this.
An air filter is a gadget which removes solid airborne speck that are generally dangerous to human health if inhaled in the lungs. Specks include articles such as dust, powder, pollen, mold, fibers, germs etc.

Some of the popular air filters include:

  • High-efficiency particulate absorption (HEPA) air filter - absorbs and cleans 99.97% of airborne particles that have a size of 0.3 micrometers or larger, which are particularly sensitive for asthma patients
  • Ionizer air filter - uses ions to attract particles, dusts from a distance by magnetizing and neutralizing particles. It may not be very effective for a room with an asthma patient
  • Activated charcoal air filter - filters fumes, cigarette smoke and some gaseous odors
  • Germicidal ultra violet (UV) air filter - removes germs and viruses from the air by a special UV lamp
  • Ozone generator air filter - generates ozone gas and kills airborne germs. It is not recommended for the residential air cleaning process as it irritates the lungs. This air purifying system is attached to heating or air conditioning unit
  • Portable air filters for smaller rooms.

HOW AN AIR FILTER WORKS?
There is no great mystery to the operation of a car engine. It is essentially an air pump. The pistons and valves work together to draw in and expel air into the combustion chambers as the engine assembly spins round on the crankshaft. The faster this assembly spins, the more air the engine can draw through. Add fuel to this air pump in the right amount to spark at the correct moment and the internal combustion equation is complete. Power! With so much air being drawn into the engine from the outside, it is of utmost importance this air enters the engine as clean as possible.
